Membership in the CPCHS Board of Directors PDF Print E-mail

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Corporation for Educational Partnerships. This body functions as the School Board for Community Partners Charter High School, and acts as the principal governing body for the school and its interests. It is known both as the Corporation and the Board. For clarity’s sake, we’ll call it “The Board”.

Here is how the application process works. According to our by-laws, the Board decides in March how many members should be on the Board for the following year. This number is taken from:

  • The mandatory minimum and maximum number of Board members (between 3 and 15, per our by-laws);
  • The ideal number of Board members (from the opinions of current Board members);
  • Any current Board members(s) who may be leaving the Board within the next school year;
  • Any other relevant facts which the Board may use in making its decision.

Therefore, there will be a fixed number of openings on the Board each year, and this number will be announced in March of this year.

In order to be considered for membership in the Board, you must be:

  • At least 21 years of age,
  • A current resident of North Carolina, and
  • The holder of at least a high school diploma or equivalent.

Provided you meet these basic requirements, and you wish to become a part of the Board, you will be asked to submit to a reasonable screening process. This process will be managed by the current Board of Directors. The first step is the completion of an application form. This form will ask for some basic personal data and a written statement providing the following:

  • The personal reason(s) for wanting to serve on the Board of Directors;
  • Your age, residency, and diploma or equivalency;
  • Certification that you have read and understood the Articles of Incorporation and the By-laws of this Board;
  • A statement of support for this Board’s purposes;
  • Your personal education philosophy;
  • Your personal background, including any talents or experience that can contribute to the function of this Board;
  • A list of references, including the name, address, and phone number of each, who can verify your personal background.

You can download the Board application form - it is at the bottom of this page.

Once you have completed the application form, you must submit it to a member of the Board. These applications will be held and interviews will be scheduled with those candidates whom the Board chooses to interview. This process is entirely at the discretion of the Board and no reasons will be given for either interviewing or not interviewing any candidate. This is in keeping with standards and practices which are common to corporate bodies such as this Board.

Between March and May, the Board will interview candidates which are chosen for further screening. At the regular Board meeting in May, the Board will vote on whether to invite specific candidates to join the Board. All candidates chosen by the Board for consideration will be voted on. Each Director may cast one vote per candidate, and may vote for as many candidates as there are current Board openings. The candidates receiving the highest number of votes, up to the number of open Director slots on the Board, will be asked to join the Board.
